#SHOPBLEECKER, A LOCAL REVITALIZATION AND SHOPPING INITIATIVE, KICKS OFF NOVEMBER 1st, 2017

The Greenwich Village Chelsea Chamber of Commerce and Businesses Along and Around Bleecker Street Come Together To Offer Deals and Events All Month Long.

New York, NY (November 1, 2017) – The GVCCC kicks off an intensive local revitalization effort on the twenty blocks that make up the historic Bleecker Street with a special #ShopBleecker initiative this month. Running from Wednesday, November 1st through Thursday, November 30th, #ShopBleecker will highlight many of the unique businesses on the thoroughfare with a variety of deals, specials and events, including trunk shows, walking tours, tastings, makeovers, free classes and workshops. Most of the events are free and do not require a purchase.

Bleecker Street businesses have many individual qualities and #ShopBleecker will provide the people in the community a chance to learn more about the people behind the businesses as well as experience the unique products and services that these businesses offer.

The coalition of businesses created by this initiative encourages the community to shop locally on or around Bleecker Street for goods and services rather than shopping online. As such, many are offering incentives to shoppers, including samples, discounts, and gifts with purchase throughout the month and particularly on #ShopBleecker Day on November 18th.

As part of the launch, participating #ShopBleecker businesses, which currently boasts 30% of all businesses on Bleecker Street, will hang a #ShopBleecker poster featuring an owner/ employee of one of the businesses in the area, as well as #ShopBleecker postcards, maps and pens.

One goal of this initiative is to show appreciation for shoppers who continue to support businesses in our community, another is to stimulate new business openings by working with local landlords and agents to match them with businesses looking for pop-up or short term leases in the neighborhood, mitigating the rising vacancy issue, which currently stands at 14%.

To thank shoppers throughout the month, local businesses have donated goods and services to be raffled off on November 30th at 5pm. To enter, shop at any of the great businesses participating in this initiative and bring your receipt(s) to 359 Bleecker Street* throughout the month and exchange them for raffle tickets. How much you spend determines how many raffle tickets you earn. For every $50 spent, you earn one ticket.

On #ShopBleecker Day, special prize packages will be raffled off at 6pm for purchases made that day and exclusive #ShopBleecker merchandise will be given to supporters of the initiative, including tote bags featuring the artwork from local artist Kazuya Morimoto, collectible #ShopBleecker shopping bag key chains and beautiful #ShopBleecker pens with proof of purchases.

“As local residents, it’s up to us to support our mom and pop stores and restaurants,” said Council Member Corey Johnson. “Bleecker Street is the heart and soul of the Village. The Shop Bleecker campaign will bring foot traffic and energy to this important retail corridor. I want to thank the Greenwich Village Chelsea Chamber of Commerce for spearheading this im- portant initiative.”

Show your support for all the businesses in this historic neighborhood and reinvest in the city we call home.
